MASKS

In the fall of 2008 McCurdy spent four months traveling through North India and Nepal. She apprenticed herself for 5 weeks to Gopi-lal Tamang - a traditional mask carver in Kathmandu. Using hand forged chisels they carved in silence while holding their respective pieces steady with their feet. The goal was faithful recreation of pre-existing iconographic forms.
